BERLIN, GERMANY - Bombardier Transportation has received the first 5-year option order from the Las Vegas Monorail Company (LVMC) to operate and maintain the Monorail system in Las Vegas, Nevada. The order is valued at approximately 44 million euros ($58 million US).

Bombardier, the supplier of the fully automated system, has operated and maintained the Las Vegas Monorail since it opened to passenger service in 2004. The fleet of nine 4-car trains links seven stations along 6.4 kilometres (4 miles) of dual-lane elevated guideway and services the east side of the Las Vegas strip, including the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Michael Shaman, Vice President, Operations and Maintenance, Bombardier Transportation’s Systems Division, commented: “Essential to reducing traffic congestion and carbon emissions, this driverless transit system has carried more than 33 million passengers, and in 2008 operated at an on-time average performance of over 99 percent.”

With over 35 years of operations and maintenance (O&M) experience, Bombardier provides a comprehensive range of O&M services for fully automated systems in cities around the world.

These include Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver, Las Vegas, Miami, Newark, New Jersey, New York, Orlando, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Tampa, and Seattle, USA; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Beijing, China; Frankfurt, London, Madrid, and Rome, Europe; and coming soon to Yongin, Korea.
