Tokyo/Japan, January 17, 2007 – Further expanding its logistics activities in Japan, Kuehne + Nagel today officially inaugurated its new logistics centre in Narita.

The proximity to Narita Airport, only 3.5 kms away, was a key factor in Kuehne + Nagel’s choice of location for its new logistics facility. In addition to contract logistics, a section of the warehouse is dedicated to airfreight.

The facility features 10,000 sqm of warehousing and handling space and includes modern office premises. Key customer at the site is Japan Airlines. Kuehne + Nagel operates the facility as a global logistics hub for all the national carrier’s in-flight catering requirements, serving the airline’s catering companies and service stations worldwide as well as checking and sorting returned goods.

Dirk Reich, Executive Vice President Contract Logistics, Kuehne + Nagel International AG, said at the opening ceremony, “This new logistics centre underlines our strategy of expanding contract logistics activities globally, with the aim of offering integrated logistics services in all countries. This year alone will see us opening two further locations in Japan, thereby laying the foundation to become one of the country’s leading contract logistics providers in the medium term.”

The new facility complies with all modern security and environmental standards and features state-of-the-art warehouse management technology.
