Intermodal Terminals
Rail service to and from the Port of New York and New Jersey
includes more than one dozen terminals handling intermodal containers,
automobiles and vehicles, and other conventional freight. These
terminals, served by three Class I railroads -- Canadian Pacific
Railway, CSX, and Norfolk Southern -- offer excellent reach to and from
important markets throughout the eastern United States and Canada.
The Port Authority is working to provide a comprehensive
on-dock rock rail network, the ExpressRail System, to serve all of its
major container terminals. This includes the recently opened Phase I of
ExpressRail Elizabeth, the interim operation at ExpressRail Newark, and
the ExpressRail Staten Island terminal, currently under construction at
Howland Hook Terminal
