Railroad Intermodal Development Takes Shape at the Port Authority of NY NJ

Rail service to and from the Port of New York and New Jersey includes more than one dozen terminals handling intermodal containers, automobiles and vehicles, and other conventional freight. These terminals, served by three Class I railroads -- Canadian Pacific Railway, CSX, and Norfolk Southern -- offer excellent reach to and from important markets throughout the eastern United States and Canada.

The Port Authority is working to provide a comprehensive on-dock rock rail network, the ExpressRail System, to serve all of its major container terminals. This includes the recently opened Phase I of ExpressRail Elizabeth, the interim operation at ExpressRail Newark, and the ExpressRail Staten Island terminal, currently under construction at Howland Hook Terminal
