LONDON, UK, – ShipServ, the leading maritime e-marketplace, announced on July 16, 2008 significant growth figures for the first half of 2008.
ShipServ TradeNet, the world’s most popular maritime e-commerce trading platform, saw significant growth in trading volumes during the first half of 2008. The number of buyers, the number of suppliers and the number of ships managed on TradeNet all grew by 33%. Furthermore, TradeNet is well on track to hit 3.5m transactions with a Gross Merchandise Value (i.e. the total monetary value of all purchases) of over $1bn by the end of 2008.
The company also saw considerable increase in usage of ShipServ Pages, the world’s leading on-line maritime suppliers directory. Today over 7,500 visitors a week use Pages to help them find new suppliers in over 6,500 ports around the world. In fact, a supplier’s details is being reviewed by a buyer every 20 seconds on Pages. This sourcing activity is estimated to be worth in the region of $400m per annum for the suppliers listed on the directory, making Pages one of the ‘places to be’ for maritime suppliers looking to attract new customers. In May 2008 Pages also hit the milestone of 20,000 supplier listings in the directory. |

The new Yutong Green Bus under construction in China. The new environmentally friendly aluminum intensive bus weighs one and a half tons less than a standard bus, thus dramatically reducing emissions.
BEIJING - Alcoa (NYSE:AA), the world’s leading aluminum company, and Zhengzhou Yutong Bus Company (Yutong), China’s largest bus manufacturer and the number two producer in the world, today introduced two new environmentally-friendly bus prototypes that will be displayed and road tested during the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing next month. The new aluminum-intensive bus body is approximately 46 percent lighter than a traditional bus and, therefore, requires less fuel and emits fewer greenhouse gases.
The new buses feature Alcoa’s spaceframe technology – used in automobiles such as the Ferrari 612 and all Gran Turismo Ferraris, as well as the Audi A8 which was just awarded the 2008 European Inventor of the Year Award by the European Commission and the European Patent Office for the development of the Audi A8 and its use of high-strength, low-weight aluminum to build lighter, more fuel efficient and safer vehicles – as well as Alcoa Dura-Bright® forged aluminum wheels, Alcoa aluminum side and roof panels, and Alcoa fasteners.

Phyre Technologies’ Superior Solution Addresses New FAA Fuel Tank Safety Requirements
EL CAJON, Calif. - Phyre Technologies applauds the new fuel tank safety rule announced today by the Department of Transportation aimed at preventing future fuel tank explosions on commercial airlines like the 1996 TWA flight 800 disaster. The company has pioneered an effective “green” on-board system that removes oxygen and vapor in fuel tanks to avoid the possible ignition of combustible gasses.
Phyre Technologies is the global pioneer and leader in closed-loop fuel tank safety technology for commercial and military aircraft. Its “Green” On-Board Inert Gas Generation System (GOBIGGS™) eliminates the probability of fuel tank ignition or explosion by dramatically reducing the oxygen and fuel vapor in the fuel tank. In addition, unlike existing technologies, the environmentally friendly system does not ventilate fuel vapor into the atmosphere. |
